Food and Agribusiness
Asian demand for fresh and processed foods and ingredients is projected to double by 2050, presenting a significant opportunity for Australia’s food and agribusiness sector. Consumers and producers are also increasingly aware of the links between food, health and sustainability.
We provide innovative and sustainable solutions across the entire supply chain - food production, processing, analysis, product development, packaging and distribution.
Our research helps the food industry gain a competitive advantage in both global and domestic markets, whilst enhancing sustainability and optimising nutrition and health impacts.
We partner with a wide range of food and bioprocessing companies on a range of research challenges, as well as on shorter-term projects such as troubleshooting existing product and process lines.
Our program helps food manufacturers:
- access food science and engineering skills from a wide range of specialist areas;
- identify and implement opportunities for process improvement, innovation, scale-up and new product development;
- develop new or improved ‘clean label’ foods and ingredients, as well as new protein sources, through formulation, processing and scale-up stages;
- apply digital manufacturing, remote sensing and advanced industry 4.0 technologies to improve product quality, reduce waste, reduce process bottlenecks and optimise supply chain or manufacturing performance;
- develop waste management solutions, value-adding and sustainability challenges; and
- access a range of government grant schemes to fund food & agribusiness research.
